Mike Tuccelli, Ride Organizer and Participant, Florida

Previous Experience: 6 Alaska Runs including a four-corner. Joining us in St. Augustine, Florida, and riding with us until St. Augustine, Florida.

I’m Mike Tuccelli, on the faculty at the University of Florida. I teach the world’s most exciting foreign language, American Sign Language. Thanks to intervention when I was a baby, I was able to learn to speak. Now, with a cochlear implant, I am able to use the phone even though I am profoundly deaf!

I’ve been biking since age 14 (I’m 59 now).

My dad in California is 93, but he rides his 1985 Honda 250 Elite daily. In the early 1930s, he had an Indian 4-cylinder motorcycle, the largest in the world at that time!

I am determined to do this Alaska Bike Run yearly until I am 100!

Join us!!

Wayne Cox, Colorado

My name is Wayne Cox. I am a retired Army helicopter pilot and flight instructor.I spend most of my time doing "fix it" jobs here at home and for for my two daughters who live near by. Of course I spend a lot of time doing Grandpa duties for two granddaughters, spoiling kids is a lot easier than actually raising them.  About the only real work I do is teaching the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Riders Course a couple of week ends a month. I became a certified rider coach 2 years ago. I really enjoy teaching both new and experienced riders in this course.  Thats about it, looking forward to the Alaska Trip.

Lyle Doverspike, Pennsylvania

I am 62 years old and have been riding motorcycles since 1972.  I now ride a 2008 Honda GoldWing.  My 1977 GoldWing had over 100,000 miles when I finally quit riding it.  Most of my riding has been with my wife or one of the kids, seeing sights in the US and Canada.  For the past six years,I have been an equipment operator for DPW--Polk Center near Franklin, PA.

The picture is me on the Ride of Honor for the American Veterans Traveling Tribute.  The replica of the VietNam wall is in the background.  The picture was taken August 2008 in Franklin.  I am looking forward to the ride to Alaska.  It is something that I have wanted to do since I started riding motorcycles.

The picture of me is from 2005 when I left for the Four Corners trip.

Paul will join the group at Dawson Creek, BC on July 9 and continue with us until July 20 when he will leave the group at Prince George, British Columbia.

Carl Haas, Kentucky

Hi. My name is Carl Haas and in this photo I am standing at the rim of Bryce Canyon Utah, one of many bike trips that I have taken across America.    I have always had a bike since I was 15 yrs. old and that has been some years back.  My current bike is a 2008 Harley Street Glide, which I got on my birthday this year (Jan. 26) and now have about 13,000 miles on it.    I have ridden all over this country and Canada .    Have done numerous 1,000-mile days.   I have had this dream of going to Alaska for some years and one time came close- made it to Jasper in the Northern Canadian Rocky Mts. before the weather forced me to turn back.  Now, 2009 will be the year and looking forward to it.

His current plans are to join us in Dawson Creek, British Columbia and to ride with us until Yorktown.

Russ Kubik, Florida

Like Lyle Doverspike, I'm 62 year old, retired, and will be doing the trip on an 08 Honda Goldwing.   I'm a retired police officer from Miami-Dade County (Miami's county) in South Florida.  I spent the majority of my 36 year career as a motorcycle officer.  I started riding as an officer in 1969 on a '63 Harley with a tank shifter and a "suicide clutch."  I rode Harleys for my entire career and have probably logged in over a half of million miles on those "Milwaukee Shakers."

My first motorcycle was a Cushman Eagle (I'm really dating myself).   My longest trip was on a Harley Road King up the east coast from South Florida to Maine and then west through Canada.   I had hoped to make it to Yellowstone, but it was mid-October and an early winter storm front chased me home through Michigan and the midwest.   The two most memorable events on this trip were a visit to the "Wall" in D.C. (sad but inspirational) and a motorcycle climb up Mt. Washington in New Hampshire (white knuckles for a flatlander from South Florida like me).  Since I was between bikes when the opportunity to make this trip came up, I took my time to search for the perfect motorcycle which, for me, will be a cross-continental trek.  I kept coming back to the Goldwing.  While I truly love Harleys and always will, this is one awesome motorcycle.

I have always wanted to visit Alaska.  To have the opportunity to be able to do it on a motorcycle was just to good to pass up.   Since I'm not that far away now, I will probably start my trip a day earlier in Key West, at the southernmost point in the U.S.  To ride from Key West up the the arctic circle would be quite an accomplishment.  Once we get to Alaska, I'm thinking about a sidetrip down to Wasilla.  Maybe I'll get lucky and run into Sarah.

Bryant Mixon, Alabama

My name is Bryant Mixon and I am a retired Sheriff from Dale County, Alabama.

I graduated from Auburn University, Troy University, FBI National Academy, Montgomery Police Academy and Currently teach at Wallace Community College Dothan, Alabama.

The point of the School intro. is to say, ENOUGH SCHOOL….Time to hit the road and see America up close!

I am 62 years old and am encouraged to see so many retired law enforcement Officers making this run.  Riding to Alaska and back for the hearing impaired and hanging out with the crowd that has signed up will make a life time memory.

My ride is a  VSTROM 650…

Herb Pitzman, Illinois

I am 65 years old, married, 1 daughter, rode in the 70's, raised my family and started riding again in 2000. My wife has been with me on all our trips, which includes rides to Nova Scotia, West coast, British Columbia, Alberta, logging a 100,000 miles on this bike so far. (Herb is a retired Chief of Police.)

Kevin S., New York

My name is Kevin S. and I'm a retired N.Y.C. detective, I ride a 1998 H.D. Electra Glide.  This bald, fat ex-Flat Foot loves to ride & laugh and always looking for a great adventure.  I have 30+ years of riding experience and I will meet the group in Great Falls and would like to tag along til the end.

What the hell -- that was my original dream when this was nothing but a dream to go from one tip to another so I may as well do it.

Steve Schiff, Florida

I’m Steve Schiff from Altamonte Springs, FL (just north of Orlando) and earlier this year hit the magic six-o.  I am retired from my first career of 31 years with Radio Shack, and I’m not sure what my next career will be so I’m riding while I can.  I found Mike’s site months ago and am really excited to be able to finally sign up. Four daughters and 4 grandkids delayed my final entry, but they are excited for me.

This picture is from my ride to the Black Hills in 05 and it’s outside the Crazy Horse Memorial near Custer, SD. ( I’m the one not carved in stone) That was a wonderful ride I took by myself as two friends cancelled and one trailered and met me.  I’ve ridden to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears ride, Milwaukee for Harley’s 100th anniversary, Myrtle Beach Bike weeks and a couple of “rides to the wall” on Memorial day weekend. Oh…I haven’t missed a Daytona Bike week in 11 years because it’s only 42 miles from my house. Fairbanks is just a bit further.

My first bike was a 1969 Honda 750 that I bought from an adult neighbor. He taught be how to ride it so I wouldn’t wreck his bike. One powerful 1st bike!  I’ve had other smaller bikes over the years and then almost a 10 year break (more children) until 1998.  I told my wife I wanted to get a used cruiser and she says “Why don’t you get a Harley?”  Those magic words became our 1997 Dyna Wide Glide that became my wife’s bike when I got my 2000 Road King (she said “get the purple one”, which I love)

Life being what it is I haven’t ridden too much the last two years and being able to do this ride is exceptional. I’ll be in North Carolina when Mike starts out and I hope to meet him in Fort Smith on the evening of the 2nd and stay with the crew until the next to last day. I really want to get to Prudhoe Bay (how many times can one step in Arctic Ocean) so I hope that works out with some others.

Douglas M. Tirpak, Florida

Hello fellow adventurers, my name is Doug Tirpak 54 years of age from Lake Worth, Fl (Palm Beach County). I have always thought about doing a trip to Alaska but previous commitments prevented it until now. I have been riding motorcycles since I was fourteen years old. Starting with a Honda 50 cub I  have had many off road bikes, cruisers and touring bikes. My current ride is a 2005 Screamin Eagle Electra Glide. This trip will by far be the most challenging ride that I have ever done.  I have been riding with a group of long time friends for many years doing two, three, four hundred mile day trips. Furthest trip to date, Florida to Sturgis across to New England back to Florida. I will meet up in Tuscaloosa. I look forward to meeting everyone until then keep the rubber side down, sun on your face, and may the good Lord watch over us all. Doug
